PREMIUM PORTABLE POWER

The global battery market is approximately $50 billion per annum and growing to power the needs of more and more wireless products and handheld devices.  Within this global market approximately $4.4 billion relates to “premium portable power”, at present dominated by lithium-ion/polymer batteries.  As can be seen from the table below (Source: BCC Inc), this market is expected to grow to $6.3 billion in 2009.

Permium Portable Power

Some consider that fuel cells will achieve strong growth in this segment, whilst others disagree – “with no major breakthrough, the fuel cell will play an insignificant role in providing power for future applications – cost, size and performance are the main obstacles” (Freedonia Group, 2004).  Clearly, this is a market, which is perfect for ENECO Thermal Chips, in conjunction with a microburner, to provide much better performance at a competitive price.

In particular, for portable products requiring 1 – 150 watts power Thermal Chips would be an ideal alternative to batteries or fuel cells.  This power range covers certain very attractive markets for ENECO, which include laptop computers, medical instruments, cordless tools and security equipment.

For example, the global laptop battery market (estimated at $2 billion per annum) could be supplied with systems using ENECO chips of less size and weight than existing batteries, to give 12 hours of normal operation compared to 3 hours currently, and with a life cycle as long as the laptop itself.  To give even longer operating hours, the user could carry a small consumable cartridge (ethanol) to refill in seconds.

The table below shows the comparison between ENECO and a “best of breed” laptop battery.  For the same operating time a user needs to carry four such batteries at a combined cost well in excess of the ENECO solution

The Eneco Solution

ENECO Thermal Chips overcome the low power density and disposal problem of batteries, and are more efficient than the most advanced small scale fuel cells projected.  Equally attractive benefits can be gained in other portable power markets, such as:

  • Medical – Equipment and instruments needed for emergencies and in remote locations.
  • Construction – Cordless tools for building professionals and the handyman.
  • Film/TV – Cordless cameras and other professional equipment used on location.
  • Security – Individual power source for firefighters, police, soldiers, and other security/emergency services.
